Topic Overview:
This webinar will help healthcare practitioners in leveraging the benefits of AI, recognizing its challenges and developing procedures for its integration.

Objectives

  1. Identify current or emerging uses of AI in healthcare such as clinical decision support, medical imaging, and patient monitoring.
  2. Discuss ethical issues related to the use of AI in medicine such as potential biases in algorithms and challenges to ensuring transparency.
  3. Explain how systems can evaluate AI systems to ensure safety, effectiveness, and equity including assessing for biases and lack of transparency.
  4. Compare the promises and limitations of applying AL technology in the practice of medicine including improved efficiency and accuracy along with risks of overreliance on proprietary systems.
  5. Describe principles of the responsible and ethical development of adoption of AI in healthcare such as ensuring diversity in data and design teams, transparency, and physician oversight, 
  6. Analyze how AI could impact physician practices and responsibilities as well as the healthcare workforce including changing roles and need for continual learning.

ABOUT OUR PRESENTERS: 

Marc Bingham, MD
Family Physician and Chief Clinical Informatics Officer,
Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System

Dr. Bingham's role includes development and implementation of informatics strategy and support for all clinicians and clinical-technical areas throughout an enterprise with 1000+ medical staff, 4000+ other clinicians, five acute care facilities, multiple post-acute care settings, and more than 120 ambulatory locations. Dr. Bingham is deeply involved with Telehealth and is Medical Director for the Patient Engagement Center. He leads the Department of Clinical Informatics responsible for all EHR Training & Optimization along with Nursing, Medical, and Pharmacy Informatics. Dr. Bingham is a MUSC AHEC Clinical Assistant Professor for Family Medicine residents, teaching in the Department of Family Medicine, and co-develops and delivers Clinical Informatics curriculum to students at four medical schools.

Vince Slater, DO
Family Physician and Clinical Informatician,

Dr. Slater brings a unique blend of clinical expertise and informatics knowledge to his role as Medical Director of Information Technology. With a focus on enhancing operational efficiency, optimizing EHR systems, and driving population health initiatives across 120 ambulatory practice locations, Dr. Slater plays a pivotal role in shaping the organization's technological strategy while still maintaining an active presence in family medicine practice. Committed to cultivating future informatics leaders, he co-develops and teaches Clinical Informatics curriculum at four prestigious medical schools.
