Physician Perspectives – Knowing the Challenges Presented from the Opposition

At the end of this session, attendees should be able to:

• Describe key challenges facing physicians related to workforce shortages and rural access to care and explain how these challenges influence perspectives on scope-of-practice policy.
• Define and prioritize core physician “non-negotiables” in scope-of-practice discussions (e.g., prescribing authority, supervision scope, title clarity, and liability assignment) and assess their implications for clinical practice.
• Evaluate potential policy strategies—including trade-offs, specialty-specific considerations, and collaborative care models—and determine how physicians may effectively shape, rather than react to, scope-of-practice legislation.
