Volunteer for SC Mission 2013
As you may recall, an event last year called South Carolina Mission2012: Midlands enabled over 2,000 patients from Columbia and surrounding areas to receive free health care. The success of last year’s event wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of South Carolina’s physicians, and your talents are again needed to make this year’s event just as successful.
Dr. Leon Bullard, a third-time volunteer and a Lexington ob/gyn, was recently named this year’s Medical Director for the event.
Last year, when we asked Dr. Bullard why he is passionate about volunteering for events like these, his answer was common to that of most of his colleagues: “Providing care for those in need, no matter who they are, is the essence of what it means to be a physician.”
This year’s two-day event, South Carolina Mission 2013 Midlands, will be held Friday, August 2 – Saturday, August 3 at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds in Columbia, SC, which will again enable uninsured and underinsured patients from the Columbia community to receive free medical and vision care.
In order for this year’s event to be just as successful as last year’s, a wide range of talents and expertise from South Carolina’sphysicians is again needed. More specifically, physicians of the following specialties are needed to provide care: Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics.
All physician volunteers will be trained via webinar prior to the event and will work in 4-5 hour shifts. To register as a SC Mission 2013 Midlands volunteer or to learn more about the event, visit www.uway.org/volunteer.
If you have any questions about your role as a medical volunteer, please contact Kate Crosby at the South Carolina Medical Association by phone at 803-612-4184 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We hope you will see this as an excellent opportunity to give back to the Columbia community and that we can count on you to help make South Carolina Mission2013: Midlands as successful as possible. Thank you in advance for your dedication to your patients and to the health care of the Midlands community.
