SCMA Member Running for AMA Board of Trustees

class=skins_core_ImageNewSkin-imageclass=skins_core_ImageNewSkin-imageThe South Carolina Medical Association is pleased to announce its support of Dr. Gerald E. Harmon, SCMA Board Member and Delegate to the American Medical Association, in his election campaign for AMA Board of Trustees Member.

“Dr. Harmon truly exemplifies what it means to be a leader in organized medicine,” said Dr. Bruce Snyder, SCMA President. “Dr. Harmon’s talents and expertise have been true assets to both our organization and the state of South Carolina. The examples are numerous and I know he will carry that leadership forward if he is elected to the AMA Board of Trustees.”

A family medicine specialist having practiced for more than 25 years in coastal South Carolina, Dr. Harmon has already demonstrated his leadership at the national level as a member of the AMA’s Council for Medical Service and as a Delegate to the AMA House of Delegates for over 18 years.

Dr. Harmon believes in the power of organized medicine, a belief he has personally put into practice at the local, state, and national levels of service, and most importantly, a belief that he intends to carry forward if elected.

“I want us as the AMA - the recognized voice and face of the profession - to be able to share our knowledge base and our intellectual capital with policy makers at every level,” said Dr. Harmon.

So, how do physicians do this? Dr. Harmon says by getting engaged with the enterprise of organized medicine.

“Since the economic realities of the world today dictate good business and communication skills, medical organizations such as the AMA provide the basis for professional and business decisions,” says Dr. Harmon. “We need to make sure our input drives those organizations.”

And that’s exactly what Dr. Harmon hopes to accomplish as a future AMA Board of Trustees Member.

Along with the AMA Delegation of the SCMA, the Southeast Delegation to the AMA, the AMA Section Council on Federal and Military Medicine, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the AMA Young Physicians Section, the SCMA proudly endorses and supports Dr. Harmon for AMA Board of Trustees.
