Although the House was on furlough this past week, several health care bills still advanced through the State House:
S.339 - Hope’s Law / The Dense Breast Tissue Bill was signed into law yesterday by Gov. Haley. The SCMA would like to give special thanks to the South Carolina Radiological Society for being instrumental in getting pertinent information to legislators regarding this bill.
H.4999 – The bill regarding immunity from civil liability for providing free services passed the House and has had a second reading in the Senate. We expect it to pass the Senate and are hopeful it will be signed into law soon.
H.5139 – the Naloxone/Opioid Overdose bill, which establishes a dispensing protocol as created by the Board of Pharmacy and the Board of Medical Examiners for pharmacies throughout the state has passed the House and also passed the Senate Medical Affairs Subcommittee. We expect it to be on the full Senate Medical Affairs Committee’s agenda next week.
Session will officially end on June 2, 2016. The SCMA will be sending out a full legislative wrap-up after session ends.
